Finding Purpose: Geri's 15-Year Adventure with The Salvation Army
Geri has always possessed an innate talent for uncovering hidden treasures. Her weekends were often spent meandering through flea markets and thrift stores, with The Salvation Army being one of her favorite stops. The welcoming staff and the warm atmosphere made each visit a delightful experience.
One ordinary day, while sifting through the store's offerings, Geri discovered that The Salvation Army was hiring. Driven by her passion and the positive environment she cherished, she decided to apply. "I didn't always feel like I knew what I was doing, but the staff and management always encouraged me," Geri recalls. That leap of faith was fifteen years ago, and today, she proudly manages our Springdale Store.
Reflecting on her journey, Geri expresses profound gratitude. "I am so thankful to the people around me that helped me gain my confidence and work my way up. I've never had a job that doesn't feel like work," she shares. Her dedication to serving others resonates deeply with The Salvation Army's mission. "If I see a need, I try to fill the need, and The Salvation Army does the same thing," Geri adds.
One of Geri's greatest joys is witnessing the spark of excitement in her customers' eyes. Whether it's a high school girl finding her dream prom dress without the hefty price tag or someone stumbling upon a long-sought-after item, these moments make her role truly special. "I love to see when customers find things that excite them. Even if it's the small things that just make their life easier," she says.
Beyond managing the store, Geri cherishes the opportunity to work closely with the gentlemen from our Corps Salvage Rehabilitation Center (CSRC). These individuals come from various parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma, seeking to overcome challenges with drugs and alcohol. Geri finds inspiration in their journeys. "I love to see when they have a sense of pride for doing good and feeling good," she reflects. Their stories, filled with determination and resilience, remind her of the transformative power of support and understanding. "They are always so thankful for the help. We get to see them get their lives back, and be their support system. Cheer them on!," Geri proudly states.
Geri's story is a testament to the profound impact of community, compassion, and commitment. From a loyal shopper to a dedicated leader, her journey embodies the very essence of The Salvation Army's mission. We are honored to have her guiding our Springdale Thrift Store and inspiring everyone she meets along the way.
