The 4th Annual Day of Giving was a huge success!

Sep 9, 2024

At The Salvation Army Austin, we believe every family matters. In response to the hidden crisis of family homelessness in our community, we provide services year-round to families in need, driving them toward success and stability. For our 4th Annual Day of Giving, we partnered with local media to shed light on this hidden crisis, raise awareness of our services, and encourage donations. Our goal was to engage the entire community in providing shelter and hope to families in need.

Our Day of Giving on August 24th, 2024 was a resounding success. Thanks to many local media partners, we were able to reach viewers and listeners across Central Texas with our message. We want to give Audacy, KVUE, iHeart, Waterloo Media, CBS, and FOX a huge shout-out for their continued partnership and commitment to our mission.

We are also deeply grateful to our generous sponsors who matched every donation, doubling the impact of anyone’s gift. Special thank you to JP’s Peace, Love, & Happiness Foundation, Katherine Nelson, Randall and Lisa Cate, James and Robin Hall and TrueSense Marketing for their contributions and continued support.

With the help of partners, sponsors, and the Central Texas community, we were able to raise $762,246 during the 2024 Day of Giving. These donations are vital for the development and support of critical resources, safe places to sleep, and hot meals for families living in our shelters. Donations help provide case management, rapid rehousing services, employment assistance and therapy, all crucial for helping families regain self-sufficiency.

Sunni, a single mother of two young children, experienced these resources firsthand at The Rathgeber Center for Families. After losing her job in a winter storm and facing the loss of her mother, Sunni turned to The Salvation Army for help. At The Rathgeber Center, her family found a safe place to stay and received the support they needed. Sunni secured a stable job through our assistance programs, enrolled her children in school, and they all began therapy in the shelter. Notably, her oldest son, who is on the spectrum, learned to speak and articulate his words for the first time. It is the support of our community that allows facilities like The Rathgeber Center for Families to impact the lives of many. The donations made during Day of Giving will help families just like Sunni’s move from crisis to stability.

We are so thankful for everyone who supported our Day of Giving and generously gave to help families in crisis yearning for safe housing. We are grateful to be able to use your gifts to serve those currently in our shelters and the families that join the growing waitlist every day.
