Union Pacific Foundation
The Salvation Army Austin Area is grateful to have received a $25,000 grant from the Union Pacific Foundation in support of our mission to make homelessness brief, rare, and nonrecurring in Central Texas.
Throughout its history, the success of Union Pacific's business has been tied to the economic and community wellbeing of cities and towns across the nation. To honor this, the organization created the Local Grants program, carefully aligning the causes they support with the company’s unique heritage, strengths, and assets. Union Pacific Railroad is committed to establishing vibrant, healthy and inclusive communities for employees, customers and residents to work, visit, and call home. Just as the railroad opened avenues for economic development and opportunity more than 160 years ago, they maintain this tradition by cultivating unique cultural and recreational experiences and equipping community members with opportunities to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
Family homelessness is a hidden crisis that affects thousands of people in Central Texas each year. The generosity of Union Pacific’s gift goes a long way in helping us support our neighbors in need, directly funding nights of shelter, meals, housing-focused case management, client financial assistance, child/family therapy services, financial literacy classes, and more across our two shelters: The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families. Our housing-focused programs have proven to be highly successful, with last year seeing 84% of residents safely transition to independent housing. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can continue to be a reliable helping hand to those experiencing homelessness in our community.
