United Way Day of Caring 2025
United Way Day of Caring Brings Support to The Salvation Army
This year’s United Way Day of Caring was a remarkable reminder of what happens when local companies come together to serve their neighbors. The Salvation Army was honored to be chosen as a partner site by several organizations that gave their time, energy, and resources to strengthen our programs and facilities.
QuikTrip brought incredible support through a two-day commitment to our Center of Hope, the largest homeless shelter in Northeast Oklahoma. On September 5 and again on September 12, around 150–180 QuikTrip employees dedicated themselves to rebuilding and revitalizing spaces at the shelter—tackling major projects like the playground and courtyard, along with other critical repairs. One of the most significant accomplishments was repairing a storm drain pipe that had been causing constant water damage to the Center of Hope’s basement. This fix, which would have cost tens of thousands of dollars, was made possible through QuikTrip’s generosity and manpower. Thanks to them, the building is safer, more secure, and better equipped to continue operating 24/7 to serve our community.
The Center of Hope houses around 250 people every night, including families and children, and serves 1,000 meals a day. As a faith-based shelter, it not only provides emergency housing but also works to instill hope and share the love of Jesus with those in need.
We were especially grateful to have Marshall Wells, QuikTrip employee and Chair of The Salvation Army Tulsa Advisory Board, volunteer alongside his colleagues. Marshall’s leadership and ongoing commitment to The Salvation Army play a vital role in helping us carry out our mission, and we are deeply appreciative of all he does.
Meanwhile, at the North Mabee Red Shield Youth Center, three more companies—Bill Knight Ford, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, and Luxa Enterprises—rolled up their sleeves to make a lasting difference. Volunteers worked on both big and small projects that left the property safer, more welcoming, and refreshed. A special focus was given to the outdoor areas, and thanks to their hard work, the Youth Center looks incredible.
The Salvation Army is especially grateful to the Knight family for their generosity and all that they do to support our mission. Their ongoing commitment makes a tremendous impact on the children and families we serve.
The North Mabee Red Shield Youth Center serves over 8,000 children each year, offering a safe, nurturing environment where kids can learn, grow, and succeed—opportunities many of them might not otherwise have. The Youth Center also works to instill strong Christian values, equipping children not just with skills but with a foundation of faith.
Projects like the storm drain repair at the Center of Hope and the outdoor renovations at the Youth Centers are more than just improvements—they are huge blessings that make our facilities safer, stronger, and better equipped to serve Tulsa families for years to come.
The Salvation Army is deeply thankful to the United Way, QuikTrip, Bill Knight Ford, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, and Luxa Enterprises for supporting our mission. Your partnership ensures that our facilities can continue to serve Tulsa families in meaningful, life-changing ways.
