Food Lion steps up with gift to feed hungry people in Greenville, S.C.
The Salvation Army of Greenville, South Carolina, has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents. The Salvation Army will use the gift to purchase food for our food pantry and soup kitchen.
"Every day, we serve people in need in our soup kitchen and our food pantry," said Major Pete Costas, Greenville area commander. "With this generous grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, The Salvation Army will be able to feed many people who would otherwise go hungry."
Every year, The Salvation Army of Greenville serves over 140,000 meals out of its dining hall and provides food assistance boxes to over 2,700 families out of its food pantry. These services are part of The Salvation Army's larger social ministries program, which serves over 27,000 people every year.
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
