Men Challenged to Step Up During Prayer Breakfast

Aug 21, 2024 | by Major Frank Duracher

“When men work together, that’s a good thing. But when they work together for Jesus, that’s even better!”

So stated Major Chris Thornhill, territorial mission, evangelism & cultural ministries secretary, during his welcome to the many prayer warriors attending this year’s Territorial Men’s Prayer Breakfast—hosted and served by the Waynesville Corps Men’s Club and their wives.

Captain Ken Chapman was this year’s speaker, centering his thoughts on the critical role of Christian men in a society that is increasingly embracing a “woke” attitude.

“More than ever, men need to stand up and be pillars of strength, honor, and courage,” Captain Chapman said, “and to be truthful about Heaven and Hell.”

Noting the need for outreach ministry in cities great and small, the captain told of his Orlando soldiers and advisory board members who routinely venture out twice a week—Tuesdays and Saturdays—to provide practical aid and prayer to the substantial homeless population.

“Many welcome our prayers for them, and a good number join us for worship at the corps on Sundays,” he added.

“If your neighbor was diagnosed with cancer, and you had the cure, wouldn’t you share that cure with him? Of course, you would. Well, we have the cure for a sick and dying world, and that cure is Jesus.”

Men are needed on the front lines of battle, he insisted, but many today are content to remain in foxholes. He also said that as Christian men, we need step away from the secularism the world is embracing and become the men God intends for us to be.

“Once you find the ‘sweet spot’ of what God calls you to do, even your bad days will be good days!”
