My Calling – Lt. Nicolas Arroqui

My Calling

By: Lt. Nicolas Arroqui

I was called to be a Salvation Army officer multiple times throughout my teenage years and as a young adult.

My biggest question was: How do I know this is truly God calling? The truth is that most of us already know, but we need someone else to confirm it just to be sure.

I struggled most of my teen years trying to find my identity. I wrestled between being a Christian and yet acting as if I wasn't – because I wanted to be seen as cool from the world's perspective.

Yet, God never gave up on me.

When I finally found my identity in him and discovered what it was like to serve him to the best of my ability, I was challenged by the question: What would be better than to serve God full time?

I thought nothing else would be as fulfilling and satisfying as giving God all there was of me serving him continually.

I was born in Uruguay and moved to the U.S. when I was 10 years old.

At the time, I didn't know the Lord, but he had plans for me as soon as I touched ground in the U.S., and he used Salvation Army officers to reach out to me.

He used them, like He is using me today.

It isn't always easy, and it has its challenges, but I know that this is what the Lord needs from me. I may sometimes fail and lose certain battles, but I would rather fail and lose with the Lord on my side than win without him.

There are lost people, looking for hope, trying to figure out who they are and why they are here. It is our job as believers to reach out and bring them to the feet of Christ.

If we don't, then who will?

Through The Salvation Army, I've had the opportunity to travel to Kenya and Cuba. It was in those places that God confirmed my calling to officership. He showed me the great need for our God worldwide, and how we need more faithful, obedient soldiers who are willing to go to war against Satan full-time.

God doesn't require you to be perfect or know it all; all he wants from you is to be obedient to him. He will do the rest.

Reach out to God and pursue his confirmation.

He will let you know!

It may not be through a burning bush, but seek him! If God is calling you, let this writing be your confirmation.
