Promoted to Glory: Major Doris Boyce

Mrs. Major Doris Burchett Boyce passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Avow Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples, Florida. Doris was born in Oxford, N.C. on May 29, 1925, to the late John and Beulah Burchett and grew up in Greensboro, NC., where she attended The Salvation Army Greensboro Corps.

In 1945, she graduated from the Salvation Army School for Officer Training in Atlanta, GA. In 1949, Doris married fellow Salvation Army Officer Robert H. Boyce from Norfolk, Va. and, together, they served the Lord in active ministry for over 48 years throughout West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. Doris' witness continued throughout her retirement, with her influence even felt by Hospice staff during her final journey.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Boyce; son, James Robert Boyce; granddaughter, Tara Boyce Burlage; two brothers, Elmo Burchett and Robert Burchett, Sr; two sisters, Elizabeth Burchett, and Mary Marshall; nephews, James Robert Burchett, Jr., and Barney "B.G." Marshall, Jr.

Surviving Doris is her daughter Mary Boyce-Johnson and husband, Denis Johnson of Naples, FL; brother, Thomas Fred Burchett (wife Saxon) of Colfax; nephews, Ted Burchett of Greensboro, Fred Burchett, Jr (Denise) of Cary; and niece Fran Marshall of High Point.
