Promoted to Glory: Major Glen Winters

Jan 8, 2026

Major Glen Winters was Promoted to Glory on December 24, 2025, at the age of 92.

Glen Robert Winters was born on September 11, 1933, to parents Joseph and Eva Winters in Fort Smith, AR. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in March 1950 at the Fort Smith Corps. He entered the Evangeline Booth College from the Ponca City Corps in Oklahoma in 1953 as a member of the Shepherds session of cadets.

Commissioned as a Salvation Army officer on June 7, 1954, he was appointed to the Revival Brigade for that summer before serving corps appointments in Seminole; Lawton; and Sapulpa, OK.

He married Eula Stringer on June 4, 1957. Together they ministered as corps officers in Jonesboro, AR, and New Orleans Citadel in Louisiana. Their last years of active officership were as administrators at Adult Rehabilitation Centers in Nashville, TN; Louisville, KY; Miami, FL; Houston, TX; and St. Petersburg, FL. The Majors Winters entered honored retirement on September 30, 1998, having served as officers for over 40 years.

Major Glen leaned on God’s Word, cherishing it as much as life itself. Psalm 1:1-2 contain the words he lived by: “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night.”

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and one granddaughter, Evangeline Joy.

Major Glen Winters is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Major Eula Winters; and children Mark, Melody, Robert, Timothy, and David; as well as ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at The Salvation Army Lakeland Corps, with Major Mark Winters presiding and Major Robert Winters bringing the message. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
