Promoted to Glory: Major Madeline Edwards

Mrs. Major Madeline Edwards, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. She was born November 22, 1935, in Buncombe County, NC, to Leora Rice Biddix and Lonnie Biddix.

Madeline served as an officer in The Salvation Army, alongside her husband Major Jack Edwards, for over three decades in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.  She entered training as a member of the Courageous session of cadets, Commissioned on May 26, 1958. They retired on Nov. 1, 1993, after serving over 35 years of active service for the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Theodore Biddix, Edward Biddix and J.B. Biddix; and sisters, Ginger Fletcher and Doris Gainey. Surviving are her husband, Major Jack Edwards; two children, Jackie Seabolt and husband John Haney and Gary Jackson Edwards, Jr.; two grandchildren, Jakob Perry Seabolt and Braden Chandler Edwards; a sister, Rosalie Chastain and husband Jack; as well as a niece and several nephews.
