Promoted to Glory: Major Mary Hall

Mar 12, 2025

Major Mary Hall was Promoted to Glory on March 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

Mary Kinnamont was born in Washington, DC, to Samuel and Elizabeth Kinnamont. She will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and love for her family.

Mary married the love of her life, Glenn Hall, Jr., in September 1955. The couple entered the Evangeline Booth College from the Washington Southeast, DC Corps, as members of the Pioneer session of cadets. They were commissioned on June 1, 1959, with their first appointment as corps officers in Memphis Southside, TN.

Four appointments followed in the Washington, DC area. Subsequent posts included: McAllen, Dallas, and Fort Worth, TX; Charlotte, NC; Richmond, VA; Jacksonville and St. Petersburg, FL; Birmingham, AL; Nashville, TN; and Atlanta, GA.

Following 15 years of divisional appointments, the Halls served 11 years in the Adult Rehabilitation Center Command. Their final assignments were to Territorial Headquarters in the Property Department. Their life’s work spanned 37 years of faithful ministry as Salvation Army officers, concluding with their retirement on October 1, 1996.

Major Mary had a profound and lasting impact on many throughout her life. In all her assignments, she performed her duties in an excellent manner and was a dedicated soldier in all of the corps they attended.

She ministered thoughtfully and sensitively to single officers with whom she and Major Glenn served. Even during years of serious illness, she consistently sent cards and notes to people who were ill, bereaved, or just in need of a word of encouragement.

Major Mary Hall is preceded in death by her husband, Major Glenn Hall; and two daughters, Cheryl King and Linda Honeycutt. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Norman) Smith and Donna Merrifield.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Bold Springs Church in Monroe, GA.
