By: Dan Childs
Jonathan Evans led the way for men of the USA South as they gathered at Atlanta Temple Corps June 3-4 for the Territorial Men's Conference.
Evans, a Christian teacher and the chaplain of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, spoke in three sessions about holy living and why it is essential to a man. The conference, held in conjunction with Commissioning weekend, opened on Friday evening with a concert by Christian recording artists Phillips, Craig and Dean. Colonel Wayne Maxwell, territorial commander for the Philippines, special guest for Commissioning weekend, was present throughout the conference and shared his personal testimony. Evans' teaching was illustrated by his experiences as an NFL veteran, and he even shared how Christian men can learn from Superman.
The territory honored its own version of Superman, Billy Spalding of the Tyler, Texas, Men's Club, who was named Territorial Man of the Year.
The Men's Ministry of the Year Award went to the Raleigh, North Carolina, Club. Runners-up in the territorial recognition were Melvin Tucker of Columbia, South Carolina, and the Jackson, Mississippi, club.
