The Salvation Army begins emergency disaster services effort in wake of Hurricane Ian

In the wake of Hurricane Ian’s landfall in Florida and movement across the state and up the Eastern Seabord, The Salvation Army began positioning resources and personnel to respond to burgeoning need in an efficient manner. Upon the storm’s arrival, The Salvation Army swiftly initiated service in Ft. Myers, Lakeland, Port Charlotte, Sarasota and surrounding areas with an established Incident Management Team (IMT) in place in the region.

More than 1,000 meals have already been served in Florida, with additional preparations in place to respond to potential need in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina as Ian projects to make its way to the north.

"We are blessed to be able to serve,” said Kevin Chinault, The Salvation Army’s incident commander in Port Charlotte, Florida. “And we plan to be here as long as we are needed."
