The Salvation Army deploys canteens in nation's capital
The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command has deployed two canteens to provide nourishment and emotional and spiritual care to the troops providing security in Washington, D.C., at the time of the inauguration of President Joe Biden. The canteens went into service Saturday, Jan. 16 and will remain in place until Jan. 31.
The canteens are from the National Capital Area Command warehouse and the Fairfax, Virginia, Corps. A third location may be added this week.
Snacks and warm drinks have been provided at two National Guard staging areas for 467 on-duty personnel. With the sub-freezing temperatures and breezy conditions, hot beverages and snacks have been in high demand. Going forward, Salvation Army officers assigned to each canteen may offer emotional and spiritual counseling to Guardsmen who visit the canteen for refreshment.
