The Salvation Army partners with Walmart and Walmart Foundation on Hurricane Ian relief

PORT CHARLOTTE — The Salvation Army is partnering with Walmart and the Walmart Foundation for Hurricane Ian recovery efforts. In keeping with this effort, Walmart has offered space in their parking lots throughout the affected areas to allow Salvation Army canteens to set up and provide meal service.

"We are grateful to the Salvation Army teams who quickly mobilized to provide much needed resources and services for the communities impacted by Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Fiona," said Brooks Nelson, senior manager, disaster response and preparedness for Walmart. "We are proud to work side-by-side to serve the communities impacted."

The Salvation Army was on the ground delivering meals and hydration to areas affected by Hurricane Ian within hours of the storm passing. With an aim toward serving and making local communities stronger, Walmart, the Walmart Foundation, and The Salvation Army have moved quickly to provide relief after Ian.

Over the last three weeks, the Walmart Foundation has committed $300,000 in support to The Salvation Army. This comes with $150,000 in support for survivors of Hurricane Fiona and $150,000 in support of immediate feeding and hydration needs to benefit the survivors of Hurricane Ian in southwestern Florida.

"The Salvation Army appreciates Walmart and the Walmart Foundation's support not just of our Hurricane Ian relief efforts, but also of our response to Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico,” said Jeff Jellets, territorial disaster coordinator for The Salvation Army's Southern Territory. “We are grateful for Walmart and the Walmart Foundation's support as their generosity keeps our mobile feeding units serving and helps put emergency relief supplies into the hands of disaster survivors."

Through October 4, The Salvation Army has served 72,480 meals, 60,437 drinks, and 17,365 snacks, with 11,190 hours of active service and 2,209 emotional and spiritual care contacts across the state of Florida in response to Hurricane Ian.
