Southern Territory Offers Teens and Young Adults Opportunities for Growth and Fellowship

Jun 28, 2024 | by Brad Rowland

Hundreds of young people from across the USA Southern Territory will gather in late July for institutes focused on learning, fellowship, worship, and praise.

The 2024 Territorial Youth Institute (TYI) will take place from July 22-29 at Camp Keystone in Starke, Florida. The theme of the event is “Set Apart” and the central verse for this year’s TYI is John 17:14, Be set apart by the Truth of God’s Word.

The institute is designed for young adults ages 16-25, and delegates will have the opportunity to form long-lasting friendships with fellow Salvationists. Each day will feature pathways for learning in drama, art, spoken word, guitar, dance, video, and more, with memorable night programs throughout the week.

TYI also boasts inspiring general sessions, allowing attendees to deepen their walk with Jesus through powerful teaching and worship. Registration is available for TYI through July 5 at youthdownsouth.org/tyi-2024

The 2024 Territorial Music Institute (TMI) will transpire nearly simultaneously at Asbury University from July 21-29. Delegates must be 14 years old by December 31, 2024, and attendees will focus on a single major track of brass band (or percussion), dance, piano, theater, theater production, visual arts, worship team, or a first-time offering of worship arts skills, focused on the technical side of worship.

Young people will also take part in other disciplines, including chorus classes and exciting electives focused on guitar, choreography, percussion fundamentals, piano, and more. Adult delegates are also offered leadership tracks aimed at developing local leaders for The Salvation Army in the Southern Territory.

TMI delegates can also participate and perform at the annual Solo Night Recital, by audition only, and the progress of the major ensembles is marked by a mid-week “preview” concert and a final concert on the final day of the institute.

The theme for TYI 2024 is “Pursue,” with a focus on 2 Timothy 2:22, Pursue righteousness, love, and peace alongside fellow musicians. Registration is available for TMI through July 4 at ussmusicandarts.org/tmi-applications.
