Woodmen Life volunteers from across the southeastern U.S. joined with The Salvation Army in Concord, North Carolina, for a day of service to fight hunger. Pat Dees, Woodmen Life president and CEO, presented a check for $65,200 of combined employee financial contributions to Majors Johnny and Rebekah Poole, Concord corps officers.

"Hunger is a serious issue in our community, and we are grateful to Woodmen Life for joining us in the fight," said Major Johnny Poole. "The Salvation Army, along with an army of volunteers, works with community
partners to ensure that everyone in our community has access to food, whether it is a meal through our emergency shelter, lunch at the Soup Kitchen or a box of groceries to take home from our weekly grocery distribution."

The Salvation Army in Concord fights hunger in the community every day through feeding residents of The Salvation Army's Center of Hope emergency shelter. The Salvation Army also provides a Monday-Friday community lunch at its soup kitchen, which is open to anyone who needs a nourishing meal.

The Woodmen Life volunteers worked in three shifts, with each project focusing on hunger relief. The first shift began the day preparing food and serving it to people visiting The Salvation Army's soup kitchen; the second shift unloaded food delivery trucks and arranged food in preparation for the Feed Our Families weekly food distribution program. The third shift of volunteers served the recipients in the Feed our Families program, which feeds approximately 200 families every week.

The volunteers also contributed a hard day's work on the Concord Corps facilities, doing cleaning and maintenance of the flower beds, playground, administration building and homeless shelter and stocking the food pantry.

"Woodmen Life volunteers are always ready to pitch in and help when needed. It's just amazing how much can be done when people come together to help," Dees said. "This event not only benefits The Salvation Army, but also gives families the food and supplies they need on a daily basis."
