Who We Are

We are an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church, dedicated to meeting human needs in our community with compassion, dignity, and hope.  Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. In practical terms, we spend our time spreading the word of Christ as we work with our community to do everything humanly possible to help our neighbors going through difficult times to get back on their feet.

Since 1938, we have stood alongside our Winston-Salem neighbors, offering a variety of programs to meet the specific needs of our community.

Our mission guides everything we do—from serving a warm meal to providing long-term support that helps individuals and families rebuild their lives.

Every day, we respond to real needs with real solutions—offering help, healing, and hope to those who need it most.

Our Programs

The Center of Hope – The only family emergency shelter in Forsyth County, providing shelter, stability, and supportive services to families in crisis

Red Shield Youth Center – A safe, nurturing, Christ-centered space where children and teens grow academically, socially, and spiritually

Emergency Assistance – Helping families with rent, utilities, food, and essential needs in times of crisis

Senior Center – Providing companionship and social activities to help seniors stay connected to the things they love

Seasonal Programs – Including the Red Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree, and back-to-school initiatives that rally community support for those in need

Generally speaking, we work to break cycles of poverty, strengthen families, provide hope, inspire faith, and invest in the next generation.

Together, We Are Transforming Lives

Life can be very difficult, and for some of us, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes, everything that can go wrong does go wrong and we need someone to help us through. Many people in the Winston-Salem area do not have a safety net to fall back on. Without a safety net, hard times can become devastating.  Without someone like you to offer help, things can fall apart completely.

It is only because of the volunteers and donors in our community that we are able to offer invaluable, and often life-saving, programs to families and individuals in true need.

When people like you volunteer or donate, a homeless family is able to feed their children and sleep in peace; a struggling veteran is able to find work and a place to live; a mother in crisis is able to rest and re-build her life with her children; a senior citizen is able to enjoy the things they love with people who care about them; a child is able to learn the life skills and receive the educational assistance to truly thrive in their adult years.

That’s why our approach goes beyond providing services—we build relationships, foster dignity, and encourage spiritual growth.

Everything we do is rooted in Faith, driven by Love and Compassion

Right Now, Someone Like You Needs Someone Like You, to Help

Whether you are looking to give or hoping to serve, there is a place for you here.

If you have been blessed with the resources, the skills, and the calling to serve our community, we need you.

Together, we can continue to bring hope where it is needed most.
