The Salvation Army of Cleveland Transitions Inman Coffee to Mobile Ministry

May 21, 2024

Cleveland, TN – The Salvation Army of Cleveland is excited to announce a significant transition in its Inman Coffee ministry. Since its founding in 2011, Inman Coffee has served as a vibrant social ministry, particularly for the youth and young adults of the Cleveland community. Known for its high-quality coffees, specialty drinks, and regular open mic nights that have launched many local artists, Inman Coffee has been a cherished hub of community engagement.

This new chapter will see the brick and mortar location of Inman Coffee pausing operations on May 24, with the ministry continuing from a mobile coffee truck starting June 3 at 3400 Keith Street NW in Cleveland. The mobile unit will operate at that location from 6:30am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday, and will be available for hire for events in the evenings and on weekends.

“Inman Coffee has always been about ministry first and foremost,” said Sergeant Ruth Forgey, Corps Administrator in Cleveland. “Our foundation in The Salvation Army is rooted in street-level engagement, inspired by William Booth’s early work preaching the Good News on the streets of East London. We believe that transitioning to a mobile coffee truck allows us to better reach and serve our community directly where they are.”

The transition to the mobile coffee unit will also provide additional space for the expanding operations of The Salvation Army of Cleveland, particularly its growing youth programs. “We are thrilled to have more room to accommodate our expanding youth initiatives, including our Thursday night School of Excellence program,” added Sgt. Forgey. “This program offers classes in culinary arts, musical instruments, and drama for students in grades 5 through 12. These programs are donor-supported and available at no cost to local youth.”

Importantly, this transition in coffee operations will not impact any current Salvation Army programs, including their homeless outreach, meal service, and Sunday worship services.

The current Inman Coffee location on Inman Street will remain available for rent for special events, ensuring it continues to serve the community in a new capacity.
