Mission Statement

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most,
to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Core Beliefs

We believe every kid has what it takes. The mission and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs fuel our commitment to promoting safe, positive, and inclusive environments for all. Boys & Girls Clubs of America supports all youth and teens – of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion – in reaching their full potential.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America has a lineup of tested and proven nationally recognized programs that address today's most pressing youth issues, teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life. Boys & Girls Clubs of America is committed to changing lives. By measuring how much Club kids and teens are achieving, we can determine how effectively the Club experience is helping America’s youth build great futures. These programs are found in six core program areas.

Power Hour and Project Learn

Project Learn is an evidence-based, comprehensive program strategy. Through this program, Club staff and volunteers use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities. These activities include leisure reading and writing activities, homework help and tutoring, games that develop young people's cognitive skills, discussions with knowledgeable adults and helping others

SMART Girls

National BGCA Program designed to meet the developmental needs of girl’s ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 17. In small group settings, the focus is on health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement. Through dynamic sessions, highly participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, obtaining good health care and developing positive relationships with peers and adults. This program is currently being taught by an Alamance-Burlington School Teacher.

SmartMoves and SmartKids

Skills Mastery and Resistance Training (SMART) program is a nationally acclaimed prevention program. Participants are exposed to various activities designed to hone their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as to learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity. We have two Nationally Trained Staff Members who teach this program with the assistance of volunteers.

Be Great Graduate

An evidenced-based Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) program. This program was developed to assist teachers and parents with a third party (Boys & Girls Clubs). Members are paired with a mentor and “forced” to talk about their academic successes and challenges, thus creating an environment in which the member wants to please and succeed academically.

Triple Play

A game plan for the mind, body and soul is a dynamic program that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships adds up to a healthy lifestyle.

StreetSmart

This is a program designed for 11 to 14 year olds which focuses on gang awareness/resistance, self-esteem, peer helpers and diversity. Developed by BGCA, this program has had some great results.
