Services

THINGS WE DO TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY

Our members volunteer their time to many worthy programs and projects in Hood County.  We have a very active group of women volunteers and would welcome men volunteers* as well.

Emergency Assistance

Help with utilities, rent, prescription, medical, dental, and temporary housing needs.

Mentors for Pre-Gap and GAP Programs for Foster Teens*

Members “adopt” a teen in foster care and meet with them routinely to mentor them through high school helping them prepare for independent life after graduation, whether its college or a career field.

Disaster Response Teams

Members are trained to respond to disasters, whether local house fires or drownings, or national disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods to provide food to first responders and those in need.   Scroll down for more information about our disaster services and Rapid Response Unit (RRU).

First Friday Food Pantry Presence with RRU*

Volunteers take our Rapid Response Unit to the First Friday Food Pantry to provide snacks and drinks to community members waiting in line for food distribution

Hope Stations

(In Partnership with Hood County Children’s Charity Fund of Hood County and the Granbury Independent School District) The Salvation Army stocks the closets at all 10 campuses with undergarments, socks, toiletries, and hygiene kits that are distributed to students in need

Operation School Supplies

We supply socks to children at Operation School Supplies, last year we gave 1,100 children 5 pairs of socks each.

Christmas for Children

Our members support this local charity by donating over 100 beds and 500 pajamas each year, as well as volunteering their time to sort and help on distribution day.

Christmas Angel Tree

Members take an “Angel” from the tree which contains a list of items that child wants for Christmas.

It is a wonderful opportunity to bless a child on Christmas morning.

Christmas Prison Ministry

Through the Salvation Army’s Prison Ministry program, we are notified of inmates from  Hood County who are eligible for their families to receive gifts at Christmas donated by the Auxiliary.

Senior Outreach

We visit and deliver gift baskets to residents at Christmas time.

Survivors of Fires

We provide clothing, food and household items from our members who volunteer for this outreach.

Summer Camp Scholarships

We pay for children to attend a week of summer camp in Midlothian at The Salvation Army’s Camp Hoblitzelle.

We are involved in many more initiatives and fund-raisers that help those who need it most in our community.

RAPID RESPONSE UNIT (RRU)

Our emergency disaster Rapid Response vehicle, purchased in 2016, has been an important addition to our Women’s Auxiliary. When disaster strikes, one of the first signs that help is on the way is often the arrival of the Salvation Army. Our RRU provides disaster relief by offering meals and assistance to first responders and survivors impacted by floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes.

Our RRU along with many of our members have served in Louisiana and Houston during Hurricane Harvey, North Carolinas’ Hurricane Florence, and Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle.  All told, we have responded to 10 national disasters in the last five years, as well as served many local events around Hood County. We’re always looking for volunteers, men and women, to join our disaster team.  The first step in being ready to respond to an emergency is training. The Salvation Army’s disaster training program offers a variety of courses designed to help individuals and communities prepare for emergency events and become trained disaster volunteers. William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, once said,
“The Salvation Army is a place of hope. When every other light is extinguished, and every other star has gone down, this one gleam shines steady and clearly out in the darkened sky: ‘If I could only get to The Salvation Army, they will do something for me’.”
