Senior Assistance

More than 14% of Americans over age 71 are affected by dementia. Research suggests that elderly care involving human contact and interpersonal conversation lowers the impact of dementia and depression. The Salvation Army works to provide programs and services to assist seniors socially, emotionally, and financially.

GENTLE SENIOR EXERCISE PROGRAMS

The N.E..W. Salvation Army offers exercise classes at 10 a.m. each Monday and Thursday. These free sessions focus on retaining and gaining fitness skills to help our more mature area residents maintain as independent a life as possible. We also offer devotionals, prayer time, and fellowship at these events. To find our more, contact Captain Claudia Meads by calling 252-446-4496 and dialing extension 66646 or choosing Option 2.

WEEKLY SENIOR FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

Our group of local seniors meet at 10 a.m. each week for a time of fellowship, food, and special programming. A grant from the United Way helps us offer this time of special speakers, movies, crafts, field trips and other fun and worthwhile activities followed by a nutritious hot meal. Seniors from Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties are welcome to attend. Modest dues are collected on a volunteer basis, but no one is turned away for lack of funds! We welcome new friends!  To find our more, contact Captain Claudia Meads by calling 252-446-4496 and dialing extension 66646 or choosing Option 2.
