Salvation Army soup kitchen moving to Kroc Center

Mar 24, 2020

The Salvation Army, which is feeding around 100 residents at its downtown shelter, will relocate its soup kitchen to the Kroc Center on Tuesday.

The move is in response to the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, metro Augusta had 20 cases, while the Georgia total jumped from 620 to 772 overnight.

Plans are being finalized to relocate the soup kitchen from the Center of Hope homeless shelter to the Kroc Center, spokesman Chris Bailey said.

To maintain social distancing, "we are still working out the details, but we are talking about making it a drive-through," he said.

The Kroc Center also will create a way for those in need of food to walk up and get it, he said.
