Savannah Salvation Army holds outdoor church service during coronavirus

In Savannah, church services are strained in the time of the coronavirus COVID-19.

Congregations are, by nature, a tightly knit group of people coming together to worship in close proximity to each other — the opposite of the minimum distance recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But on Sunday, about 20 worshipers gathered in the parking lot of the Salvation Army on Bee Road, just east of Daffin Park. Some sat in chairs placed in rows, strategically 6 feet apart; some sat in their own folding chairs or on the back of cars parked around the lot.
