The Salvation Army of Augusta Holds Summer Fan Drive

May 4, 2022

With the hottest months of the year upon us, The Salvation Army of Augusta has launched its Annual Summer Fan Drive, taking place throughout May. Beneficiaries of this drive are the elderly within the Greater Augusta Area who do not have proper air conditioning and are susceptible to heat-related illness.

Captain Jonathan Raymer, Augusta Area Commander for The Salvation Army, said, “Georgia law doesn’t require landlords to provide air conditioning for tenants. Many older, more affordable homes in Augusta have no central air conditioning. There’s no justifiable reason why our elders should suffer through extreme heat, so we aim to come together as a community and do the most good on their behalf.”

Summer House Realty on Washington Road has partnered with The Salvation Army of Augusta for the cause, and they are collecting donations at their office throughout May.

Items needed for the drive include gently used or new fans, preferably 20” box fans that will fit in a window for maximum air circulation. The Salvation Army of Augusta asks that you turn in your donations to one of the locations listed below before May 31st. The Salvation Army will also accept Monetary gifts. All donations will stay local and are tax-deductible.
