Home Energy Aid Month
July is Home Energy Aid Month in Central Oklahoma! We are no stranger to the warm weather. With prices of basic necessities continuing to rise, many Oklahomans are finding it difficult to cover the costs of utility bills during the summer months. This is why we need your help. More than 16,700 individuals in Central Oklahoma received emergency financial assistance from The Salvation Army last year, but the demand was and is much greater for help covering the cost of utility bills.
The difference you can make by donating cannot be stressed enough. Your donation will help families stay together, avoid homelessness, and get back on their feet economically.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. (OG&E), Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG), and Public Service Co. of Oklahoma (PSO) have long been a part of The Salvation Army's effort, providing matching funds and making it easy for you, as a utility customer, to donate through payment of your utility bill. ONG has the Share the Warmth Program; PSO’s program is called Light A Life, while OG&E has the Lend-A-Hand program. Contributions to the programs are transferred to a local Salvation Army Corps that administers the program in a given community, screening applicants and distributing benefits. Households unable to pay utility bills because of financial emergencies are eligible.
You can help by adding a couple of dollars to your OG&E, PSO, or ONG bill payment. Donated funds will be used for electricity or other heating fuels. It’s easy to give.
