We fight poverty with love Image

We fight poverty with love

By providing programs that serve the body, mind and soul, The Salvation Army helps alleviate the symptoms of poverty. Additionally, we work to address the root issues that cause it.

One in Six Oklahomans Struggle to Make Ends Meet

At The Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma, we are passionate about helping people stay in their homes, and keep their lights on.

How we help prevent homelessness

The Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma offers various social services programs to assist our neighbors in need.

Rent / Utility Assistance

Emergency financial assistance is provided to pay a utility or rent bill when funds are available. Individuals who meet eligibility requirements will be given an appointment based on availability. You will be asked to bring an ID, proof of income for every adult in the household, receipts of expenses paid in the last 30 days, and the current utility or rent bill.

Anti-Poverty Initiative

The Salvation Army offers the Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin'-By World program for residents of Cleveland and McClain counties. This program marks a pivotal shift to focusing on the core causes of poverty rather than treating the symptoms. Lack of job opportunities, unstable housing, and an underserved educational environment can all be major challenges for someone looking to lead a self-sustainable life. Through guided coaching with our trained facilitators, people living in poverty can break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability and lead families toward increased stability for years to come. ID & Birth Certificate Assistance

For individuals experiencing homelessness with no income, we assist them with obtaining an ID or retrieving their birth certificate. Individuals must either be staying in The Salvation Army Shelter or bring a referral from a partner agency stating the individual’s homeless status.

Connection to other local resources

If we do not have the resources to assist you, our goal is to connect you with another organization that can.

Providing Future Hope

Jennifer lost her job during the height of COVID-19. She began suffering from anxiety and felt as though she had no hope for the future. After reaching out to The Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma, she met one-on-one with a case manager. "I was able to determine what I was good at and developed a plan to move forward" said Jennifer. "Yes I received rental assistance, but I also received hope for my future." She now works as a teacher in Oklahoma City and was recently named Teacher of the Month.
