What is Safe From Harm?

Safe From Harm: A Unique Child & Vulnerable Adult Safety Program is designed to help units of The Salvation Army reduce the risk of abuse or injury to infants, children, teens, and vulnerable adults who participate in their programs. The goal of Safe From Harm is to implement proven child and vulnerable adult safety techniques to protect the people in our care from all forms of abuse and neglect, such as physical, sexual, emotional, and spiritual abuse. Safe From Harm will equip Salvation Army personnel with effective techniques and tools to prevent child abuse and accidental injury, to protect those in our care, and to respond to incidents and disclosures of abuse promptly and effectively, should they occur in our programs.

"‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’" Matthew 25:40

Salvation Army personnel, including volunteers, employees, and officers (pastors), are trained extensively in child and vulnerable adult abuse prevention. They are also trained on Salvation Army policies and procedures that will help prevent incidents from occurring, and equip them to respond to an allegation of abuse or any other incident. All Salvation Army personnel are also carefully screened before working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
