Residential Services:
A Safe Place to Rebuild

Shelter for men and women working
to overcome homelessness.

Need Help?

The Salvation Army offers residential housing services to meet the needs of unhoused single men, single women, and families with children in a safe environment with comprehensive support.

Residents receive daily meals, one-on-one case management, connections to community partners for medical, emotional,
and practical needs, and 24-hour support from our knowledgeable, caring staff.

It’s more than shelter—it’s a path forward.

More Than One Way Home

Every person who comes to The Salvation Army has a different story. Our goal is to meet them where they are with a Housing First approach:

  • We provide short-term Emergency Shelter to single men, single women, and families in a safe environment while we assess each individual’s needs and connect them to the most appropriate next step—whether that’s transitional housing, rapid rehousing, or specialized care.
  • Some individuals are ready to leave Emergency Shelter and move directly into housing in the community through Rapid Rehousing. We help them get settled quickly into their own home and then surround them with support.
  • For those who need more help to get to independence, we offer Transitional Housing giving our residents structure, support, and shelter while they rebuild and work toward long-term self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
  • The Salvation Army in Knoxville has a long history of providing refuge for both women and men in need of Domestic Violence Support. Our Joy D Baker Center has long been recognized in the community as a haven for those who need that kind of support.

Opioid Abatement

The Bridge to Home Opioid Abatement Program provides short-term, intensive support for individuals with opioid use disorder as they work toward stability and independence.

This collaborative initiative brings together a strong network of partners — including The Salvation Army, The Gateway, the McNabb Center, and UT Medical Center — to deliver coordinated care, housing support, and recovery-focused services. Together, these organizations are helping address one of the most urgent challenges facing Knoxville today: supporting individuals and families impacted by the opioid crisis and creating pathways out of homelessness and instability.

Through this important partnership, participants are achieving meaningful outcomes, including permanent housing, employment, and renewed purpose.

Support Now and Later

Regardless of the approach to housing, all our clients receive support through:

  • One-on-one case management
  • Employment and life skills support
  • Emotional and spiritual care
  • Help navigating services and long-term housing

Our goal is the same for everyone: a stable, self-sufficient future—and we walk alongside each person to help them get there.

April’s Story

Our mission is to equip, empower and educate those seeking transformation. After April was released from prison for drug charges, she was given the option to choose The Salvation Army program.

After completing the 6-month program, our staff helped her back into the workforce and find housing, educating and empowering her to get back on her feet and self-sustainable.

Even though her 6 months have been completed, our assistance and support continue to be a resource for her.

“They did everything they could to help me reach that goal. It’s in me to overcome and with all the resources they provided me, there’s not a reason why I couldn’t succeed.”

— Jenny
