The Salvation Army is proud of its 112 years of service to those in need in the Coastal Bend area. The organization offers people the opportunity to grow, learn and become self-sufficient in our challenging society through Corps activities, social services assistance, family services, youth character building and mentoring programs, disaster assistance and a myriad of other programs to provide assistance to those in greatest need. As the Army continues to serve the community, significant progress has been made in developing plans for the expansion of services to address the under-met needs of men, women and children who simply need a helping hand and a message of hope for a brighter tomorrow.
PHASE 1:
This facility will house our families, veterans and single women. The business center and administration offices will also be located here.
Phase 1 is under constriction and is projected to be complete by May 2021. However, this is not fully funded.
The campaign goal for Phase 1 is $8,500,000 and we are still $800,000 short of our goal. There are still opportunities available to help us reach our goal. Commemorative opportunities are also still available for this building.
PHASE 2:
Phase 2 is projected to cost $4,500,000 to construct. Phase 2 will have 2 separate buildings. One building will house homeless single men and the second building will be the maintenance warehouse and Food Pantry. These elements are large ministries of The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend and serve hundreds of people every month. Phase 2 is not funded at all and there are naming opportunities for this facility as well.
With both of these facilities, The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend will be able to serve those who come to us for assistance from one location. We will be able to house more people than we currently can, and we will be better equipped to help everyone in need who comes through our doors.

Total Goal
Phase 1
The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope will be a one-stop location providing comprehensive social services for very low income and homeless individuals and families. Our campaign goal of $8,500,000 will allow The Salvation Army to construct a 36,000 square foot campus with specific facilities to provide food, shelter, and supportive services.
With a long history of serving those most in need, The Salvation Army’s new Center of Hope is modeled after hundreds of similar projects that have been implemented by Salvation Army throughout the nation. With the support of the community, this new Center will have a dramatic and lasting impact on the community for many years to come.
The Kitchen and Dining Room will be equipped to serve 750-1,000 meals per day which will increase our number of meals served from 180,000 to approximately 240,000 per year, an increase of 33%.
The Family Shelter will double our current capacity to assist families. Offering both emergency shelter and transitional housing, we will be able to accommodate a variety of family combinations including single mothers and fathers with children. This will allow us to become more efficient in meeting the variety of needs of our community with increased services to intact families. We are also the only shelter in the region with the capacity to handle intact families.
The Family Service Center will provide dedicated space for client intake, case management services, and supportive services. The Salvation Army’s wide array of programs and supportive services (cafeteria, emergency shelter, transitional housing, clothing, counseling, GED, spiritual counseling, life skills and referrals to medical, child care, employment services, substance abuse treatment) enables clients to have a much greater chance of success than in other stand-alone programs. Additional services are available through the local continuum of care by means of referral.
With the success of this effort, The Salvation Army can continue to make a tremendously positive impact on the lives of families and individuals throughout the community. Certainly it will take all of us, working with vision today to bring hope and opportunity to others tomorrow. Raising $8.5 million is not an easy task, but success depends on the dedication and commitment of caring leaders like you who are willing to set an example for the rest of the community to follow.
As you consider helping The Salvation Army by investing in this important community project, please know that your participation is deeply appreciated. More importantly, know that there is no greater gift you could possibly grant than an investment in the future of our community.
The campaign goal for Phase 1 is $8,500,000 and we are still $800,000 short of our goal. If we are not able to reach this goal, it will result in a 15 year mortgage and paying mortgage payments from our general operating funds. There are many opportunities to still help us meet this goal and avoid taking a mortgage. There are also commemorative opportunities still available for this building.
Commemorative Opportunities:
Veteran’s Wing $300,000
Business Lounge $50,000
Children’s Lounge $50,000
Family residence rooms (29 rooms) $10,000
Family residence furnishings (20 rooms) $5,000
In addition, Phase 2 is projected to cost $4,500,000 to construct.
