September is Hunger Action Month

Join The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta to fight hunger this Hunger Action Month.

Every day more than 450,000 people living in The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta’s service area are experiencing food insecurity, meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from. Not having access to healthy, nutritious food can cause issues for people of all ages. A lack of good nutrition can make it difficult for a child to concentrate and do well in school. It can also make it hard for an adult to focus while at work and for an older adult with diabetes to maintain a healthy diet. These are just a few of the ways that hunger can impact our neighbors.

With so many people struggling to put food on their tables, Hunger Action Month, a national hunger awareness campaign that happens each September, is an important opportunity for the community to come together and address the issue. The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta offers several ways for groups and individuals to get involved and make an impact.

You can volunteer to:

  • Stock shelves in one of our numerous food pantries
  • Help out in a community garden
  • Host a food drive
  • Serve meals to residents of our Red Shield Services shelter

Another impactful volunteer opportunity that is available is to assist The Salvation Army of Gwinnett Corps serving meals to underserved families in local apartment communities. One recent afternoon, a group of volunteers from Primerica joined in this effort. The group included full-time staff and interns. Adrian Woodwork Vivians, senior vice president in the Human Resources Department was asked about the importance of exposing their interns to what Primerica does in the community. “Primerica is all about the people, so it is important that anyone we bring into our corporation understands the value of giving back. We are blessed and we want to be a blessing to as many as we can. That’s really what our company is built on.”

Primerica intern and volunteer, Griggy Folford, said about his experience, “It’s good to be part of something that gives back. It’s important to give back. It reminds you of what’s important in life and everything we’re blessed to have.”
